League leaders Ikorodu City delivered a statement performance in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after securing a hard-fought away victory against Enyimba in Aba, while Shooting Stars strengthened their push for continental qualification with a commanding 4-2 win over Warri Wolves.
Ikorodu City Maintain NPFL Top Spot with Gritty Away Win
At the Enyimba International Stadium, Ikorodu City showcased the resilience that has defined their title charge this season.
Joseph Arumala’s 29th-minute strike proved decisive as the visitors absorbed sustained pressure from Enyimba to claim all three points in a crucial NPFL fixture.
The victory takes Ikorodu City to 44 points from 26 matches, keeping them firmly at the summit of the NPFL table.
Rangers Climb to Second, Rivers United Drop to Third
Title rivals Enugu Rangers intensified the pressure at the top with a 2-0 victory over Wikki Tourists. First-half goals from Wisdom Ebirim and Godwin Obaje lifted Rangers to 43 points, moving them into second place.
Meanwhile, Rivers United slipped to third on 41 points, though they still have five outstanding games following their exit from the CAF Champions League. Their games in hand could yet reshape the NPFL title race.
Shooting Stars Produce Statement 4-2 Victory Over Warri Wolves
In Abeokuta, Shooting Stars delivered one of their most complete attacking displays of the season.
Warri Wolves took an early lead through Peter Ita inside seven minutes, but Sodiq Ibrahim responded almost immediately, equalising four minutes later to settle the contest.
The Oluyole Warriors gradually imposed themselves with sharp midfield transitions and fluid attacking combinations.
Lucky Emmanuel capped a brilliant team move in the 29th minute — a goal already drawing “Goal of the Season” conversations — before Desmond Ojietefian extended the advantage nine minutes later with a powerful header from a corner.
Stephen Amos effectively sealed the win midway through the second half with a stunning long-range strike, underlining Shooting Stars’ attacking confidence.
Although Othuke Egbo pulled one back late on with a well-taken free kick, Wolves never mounted a serious comeback.
CAF Confederation Cup Race Heats Up
The victory moves Shooting Stars to 38 points from 25 matches, just three points off a CAF Confederation Cup qualification spot, with a game in hand — a significant boost to their continental ambitions.
Warri Wolves, however, drop to 11th place on 34 points, as inconsistency continues to derail their campaign.
