The Diaspora arm of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has officially enacted its 2026 Constitution, marking a significant milestone in youth leadership, governance reform, and diaspora engagement.

The Diaspora President, Collins Idahosa, described the new constitutional framework as a landmark achievement designed to strengthen transparency, accountability, and global coordination among Nigerian youth organisations worldwide.

According to him, the move reinforces the NYCN Diaspora’s mandate as the statutory mouthpiece for Nigerian youths living abroad.

Four Key Governance Organs Introduced

The 2026 Constitution establishes four specialised organs to enhance operational efficiency and inclusive leadership:

Diaspora Youth Congress – The primary decision-making body.

Diaspora Board of Trustees – Serves as the internal conscience and legal supervisory arm.

Diaspora Advisory Council – Provides expert mentorship and policy oversight.

Diaspora Executive Council – Oversees administration and implementation of programs.

Idahosa emphasised that the council’s mission remains focused on empowering Nigerian youth in the diaspora for global impact, national pride, and individual excellence.

Nigeria Diaspora Youth Day Set for August 22, 2026

In a further boost to diaspora youth engagement, August 22, 2026, has been designated as Nigeria Diaspora Youth Day.

The event will be held in London and will coincide with the NYCN’s 62nd Anniversary Symposium.

The gathering is expected to attract young professionals, policymakers, and key stakeholders to deliberate on youth empowerment, leadership development, and cultural identity under the theme, “Build the Youth, Build the Nation.”

Call for Inclusivity and Participation

The NYCN Diaspora leadership reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the rights, inclusion, and integration of Nigerians living abroad.

Idahosa urged diaspora youths to actively participate in council discussions and programs aimed at fostering unity, innovation, and sustainable development.

With the adoption of the 2026 Constitution, the NYCN Diaspora signals a renewed commitment to structured governance, global youth representation, and stronger ties between Nigeria and its citizens overseas.
