Ondo State Athletes Eye Top Spot at 2nd Niger Delta Games

Ondo State athletes are putting the finishing touches on their training as they prepare to compete at the 2nd Niger Delta Games in Edo State, scheduled to kick off with an opening ceremony on Friday, February 20, 2026.

Competitors from the nine Niger Delta states are expected to arrive on Thursday, February 19, marking the start of a week-long sporting festival.

Returning to Akure for the final phase of their closed training camp, the athletes described the atmosphere as focused, intense, and highly motivating. Football players Ola Gabriel Temitope and Olamide Agbajeola emphasized that the team had shifted fully into competition mode, with their sights set on victory.

“We are training every day, and everyone is taking it seriously. We want to make Ondo State proud. Football is the king of sports, and we are determined to make a big impact,” Temitope said. Agbajeola added that the camp helped the team settle quickly and boosted their motivation to represent Ondo State with pride.

Swimmer Mojisola Giwa also shared her optimism, highlighting that the training had enhanced both fitness and teamwork. “The preparation has been excellent, and we are grateful for the support. I believe we will return with medals,” she said.

The Niger Delta Sports Festival will feature competitions across 16 sports, providing a platform for athletes from the nine states to showcase their talent and determination. The event is sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and organized by Dunamis-Icon Limited, promising a well-coordinated and competitive tournament.

With rigorous training, strong team spirit, and a clear focus on excellence, Ondo State athletes are confident of achieving outstanding results and making their state proud at the 2026 Niger Delta Games.
