One Feared Dead in Fresh Bandits’ Attack on Kwara–Ekiti Border Community

One person has been confirmed dead following a fresh attack by suspected bandits on Koro community, a border settlement in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, threw the rural community into panic as residents fled their homes for safety.

Locals said the assailants were heavily armed and fired sporadically on arrival, forcing villagers to scatter in different directions.

A resident who spoke with PUNCH Metro disclosed that the attackers struck without warning.

“They came suddenly and started shooting into the air. People ran in different directions to save their lives. Later, one person was confirmed dead,” the source said.

The latest incident has heightened concerns over rising insecurity along the Kwara–Ekiti border, an area that has witnessed repeated attacks linked to banditry and cross-border crimes.

Meanwhile, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, alongside his Kogi State counterpart, Usman Ododo, and Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, visited victims of a recent terrorist attack in Woro community, who are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Ilorin.

Speaking to journalists at the Government House, Ilorin, Governor Oyebanji described the attacks as unfortunate and reaffirmed solidarity with the people of Kwara State.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Kwara over this unfortunate incident. We commend the Federal Government and security agencies for their swift response so far,” Oyebanji said.

The governors assured residents that Kwara, Ekiti, and Kogi states would intensify inter-state security collaboration to tackle banditry and criminal activities threatening border communities.

Also present during the visit was Raheem Ajulo-Opin, the lawmaker representing Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero/Ekiti Federal Constituency, as prayers were offered for the speedy recovery of injured victims.
