National News – A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and former senator for Oyo South, Rilwan Akanbi, has extended condolences to former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.

Akanbi described her passing as “painful and irreplaceable,” highlighting the late matriarch’s life of dignity, compassion, and devotion to family and community.

He urged El-Rufai to find comfort in her enduring legacy.

Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, reportedly about 100 years old, passed away in Cairo, Egypt, after a period of illness, according to her grandson, Bello El-Rufai, who announced the news on Facebook.

In his post, Bello thanked Allah for her life and called for prayers for her soul.

The death comes a week after the passing of El-Rufai’s daughter-in-law, Safiya Ali Rufai, compounding the family’s grief.

Akanbi also called on friends, associates, and well-wishers to support the family through prayers and solidarity.

Meanwhile, Nasir El-Rufai was granted temporary bail by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to perform the funeral rites.

His son, Bashir El-Rufai, confirmed the release on X, praising public support and condemning the agency’s handling of the situation.

Hajiya Umma El-Rufai’s life was marked by strong moral values, dedication to her family, and service to her community.

Her passing has resonated beyond the family, with many acknowledging the inspirational impact of her life.
