Palm Sunday: CAN Urges Leaders To Ease Hardship

By Our Correspondent

National News – The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged political leaders across Nigeria to take urgent steps to ease economic hardship as Christians commemorate Palm Sunday.

The appeal was made on Sunday by the CAN President, Daniel Okoh, who called for compassionate leadership amid rising living costs affecting millions of Nigerians.

According to Okoh, Palm Sunday, which marks the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, symbolises humility, peace, and purposeful leadership.

He said the biblical event offers a timely reminder for leaders about how to govern during periods of uncertainty and economic strain.

Okoh explained that many Nigerians are struggling with increasing expenses, noting that food, transport, and fuel prices have surged in recent months.

He linked part of the economic pressure to global geopolitical tensions involving countries such as Iran, Israel, and the United States, which have disrupted international energy markets and pushed up fuel costs.

He stressed that leadership during challenging times should be rooted in empathy and careful decision-making rather than displays of authority.

According to him, Nigerians need reassurance and stability from those in positions of power.

Beyond government officials, CAN also encouraged churches and citizens to promote unity and peaceful coexistence during the Easter season.

Okoh urged Nigerians, particularly young people facing economic challenges, to remain resilient and hopeful despite the current difficulties.

He concluded that the spirit of Palm Sunday should inspire collective commitment toward national unity, compassion, and shared progress as the country navigates economic uncertainty.
