Police Probe Alleged Assault on Actor Ijoba Lande as Officers Detained

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that officers allegedly involved in the assault of popular Nigerian actor and skit maker Ganiyu Morufu, widely known as Ijoba Lande, are currently in police custody and under investigation.

Ijoba Lande had earlier accused Nigerian police officers of brutally assaulting and robbing him, sparking widespread outrage on social media.

The confirmation was made on Friday, February 6, 2026, via a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi. According to her, the officers implicated in the incident have been identified and summoned for questioning.

“The officers involved have been identified and brought forward to the command for investigation. At the moment, both the officers, the actor, and his friend are giving their statements. Further developments will be communicated accordingly,” Adebisi stated.

A disturbing video shared online showed Ijoba Lande seated in the passenger seat of a car, bleeding from the left side of his face and displaying visible bruises. In the footage, the visibly shaken actor repeatedly cried out in Yoruba, saying, “Mo fẹ́ mu omi” (“I want to drink water”), as those around him attempted to calm him.

In the background, a man alleged that officers from the Area J Police Station carried out the attack, repeatedly mentioning the station and accusing them of misconduct. Towards the end of the video, the group appeared to have arrived at a police station, where the actor looked calmer.

The caption accompanying the viral clip claimed that Ijoba Lande was robbed during the attack, losing his iPhone 16 Pro Max and $1,200 belonging to his brother.

“I came back from the UK six days ago and was attacked and beaten by police in Nigeria. They collected my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life,” the caption read.

Efforts to reach Ijoba Lande directly or through his management for comments were unsuccessful as of press time.

Earlier, the Nigeria Police Force Complaint Response Unit (NPF-CRU) had requested the actor’s contact details to aid investigations, reaffirming its stance against police misconduct.

“Dear @Alpha_Yom, thank you for contacting NPF-CRU. @metronaija, kindly avail this unit with the contact of the victim for further investigation. #NoToImpunity,” the unit posted.
