Confusion and grief have engulfed residents of the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, Lagos State, following the mysterious death of a popular gospel artiste, Matthew Ogundele, and three of his crew members inside a music studio.
The tragic incident occurred at a studio located within the HFP Shopping Complex, sparking shock and outrage among friends, family, and fans of the deceased.
According to reports, Ogundele and his team — identified as Joseph Sanya, Itunu Ogundele, and a blogger known as Matthew Awosanya (JoesTv) — had performed at a birthday praise event on Tuesday, February 3, before deciding to spend the night in the studio.
The following morning, they were found lifeless.
Police Confirm Incident, Begin Investigation
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the incident, assuring the public that investigations are underway to determine the cause of death.
A police source who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Investigation is ongoing, as there was no sign of violence on the remains of the victims.”
Preliminary findings revealed that the victims had participated in a three-day birthday praise programme organized by another gospel artiste, Olanireti Akinbola.
Her husband, Akintayo Akinbola, who owns the studio, reported the case to the police after discovering the bodies.
How They Were Found
According to the police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, Akintayo said he left the artistes in the studio on Tuesday night after buying food for them as they prepared for the next day’s concert.
However, by 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 4, he returned to find the studio locked from the inside. After raising an alarm, the door was forced open — only to discover the lifeless bodies of the four artistes.
Detectives from the Ajah Police Division visited the scene, took photographs, and confirmed that no physical injuries or signs of violence were found on the bodies.
Adebisi added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for further investigation.
Public Reaction and Calls for Justice
The shocking deaths have sparked outrage and speculation online, as photos circulating on social media show the victims with blood stains on their noses, ears, and mouths.
Friends and colleagues of the deceased have taken to social media to demand justice, urging the police to uncover what truly led to the deaths.
Meanwhile, the police have appealed to the public to remain calm and allow investigators to conclude their findings.
