PSG’s Achraf Hakimi to Face Trial Over 2023 Rape Allegation

Achraf Hakimi, defender for Paris Saint-Germain and captain of the Morocco national football team, is set to stand trial in France over an alleged rape case dating back to February 2023.

According to French judicial sources, the investigating judge has concluded the inquiry and ordered that the case proceed to a criminal court.

This development marks the end of the investigative phase in a case that has drawn widespread attention across European football and international sports media.

Background of the Allegation

The complaint was filed on February 26, 2023, by a 24-year-old woman who alleged that she was raped at Hakimi’s residence in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris.

The two reportedly met via social media before she visited his home late on February 24.

Five days after the complaint was lodged, French authorities placed the Moroccan international under formal investigation.

At the time, he was 24 years old and playing a key role for PSG, having previously featured for top European clubs including Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Real Madrid.

In August 2025, prosecutors in Nanterre requested that the case be referred to trial. The latest judicial decision confirms that request has now been approved.

Hakimi Denies Rape Allegation

Hakimi, now 27, has consistently denied the accusation, stating that the encounter was consensual.

In a public statement, he expressed frustration over the legal process while reaffirming his innocence and confidence that the trial will clear his name.

No official trial date has been announced.

The upcoming court proceedings are expected to attract significant public and media scrutiny, given Hakimi’s high profile in global football and his leadership role with both PSG and Morocco.
