Former Niger Delta freedom fighter, ‘General’ Endurance Amagbein, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene in the escalating political crisis between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
In a statement released in Abuja, Amagbein warned that failure to address the standoff could plunge the state into violence, with innocent citizens bearing the brunt of the fallout.
He said the crisis has reached a critical stage where only the president’s direct intervention can restore calm and unity.
According to him, reconciliation between Wike and Fubara is essential not only for peace in Rivers State but also for political stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The situation has gone beyond ordinary political disagreement. At this point, only President Tinubu can bring both men together and settle this matter amicably,” he said.
Popularly known as “Adaka Boro the Second,” Amagbein urged both leaders to adopt a “father-and-son” approach, stressing that their differences amount to a misunderstanding that should not be allowed to tear the state apart.
He warned that the lingering crisis has created room for saboteurs who are exploiting the situation to divert public funds and undermine governance in the state.
“While everyone is distracted by this political drama, some people who do not mean well for Rivers State are smiling to the bank,” he said, adding that such individuals thrive on division and chaos.
Amagbein alleged that some of the crisis instigators are outsiders who have infiltrated Rivers politics and are fanning the flames of discord for selfish interests.
He called on prominent Niger Delta figures, including King Asari Dokubo and King Ateke Tom, to remain vigilant and prevent external forces from destabilizing their domains.
The former agitator also cautioned Ijaw youths against taking sides in the dispute, urging them instead to prioritise the collective interest of Rivers State.
“Supporting one camp against the other will not benefit the people. This issue can be resolved peacefully,” he said.
Amagbein further alleged that certain groups are deliberately using the crisis to weaken President Tinubu’s chances in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections, urging Wike and Fubara to reconcile and deny such forces any advantage.
He also appealed to the Rivers State House of Assembly to embrace dialogue and promote peace, noting that sustainable development can only thrive in a stable political environment.
