Security Forces Kill Six, Rescue Eight in Northern Nigeria

National News – Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have intensified military operations against criminal and terrorist enclaves in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi states, killing six suspected bandits and seizing weapons, communication devices, and motorcycles during coordinated offensives this week.

Security forces also rescued eight abducted individuals, highlighting the Nigerian military’s ongoing commitment to protecting vulnerable communities.

In Benue State, Operation Whirl Stroke, working with the Benue Civil Protection Guard, successfully freed Mrs. Member Ityavber, a 28-year-old kidnapping victim, from Tse-Ubena village, Katsina-Ala LGA. Two suspected armed herders were apprehended.

Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, police rescued a housewife and her six children abducted in Damba town, Gusau LGA, after confronting bandits who fled the scene.

In Sokoto State, the COAS Intervention Battalion VII engaged terrorists at Magonho Forest on March 25, neutralising three and recovering three AK-47 rifles and motorcycles.

Zamfara troops ambushed armed men along the Gada Maya–Makakari road, killing two, seizing an AK-47, ammunition, two mobile phones, a Baofeng radio, and a motorcycle.

Retaliatory attacks on Kaida Village were foiled, and an additional terrorist was neutralised.

In Kebbi State, troops responding to intelligence on the Lakurawa Terrorist Group in Giron Masa, Shanga LGA, faced an ambush but held their ground with reinforcements.

Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division, said these operations reflect the military’s resolve to dominate the battlespace and dismantle criminal networks.

He added that intelligence-led missions continue to track fleeing terrorists.

Maj. Gen. Moses Gara, Force Commander, Operation Whirl Stroke, praised the troops’ professionalism and swift response.

DSP Yazid Abubakar, Zamfara police spokesperson, confirmed the safe rescue of all abducted family members.

These operations demonstrate the Nigerian Army and police’s commitment to neutralising armed bandits, safeguarding citizens, and restoring peace across the North-West region.
