National News – The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has ordered the suspension of civil servants found absent from duty by 10 am following a surprise inspection of the state secretariat in Awka on Thursday.
During his unannounced visit, the governor conducted a thorough assessment of punctuality across various ministries and departments.
Workers failing to report on time will be suspended without pay, he warned.
Soludo emphasized that absenteeism and poor work ethic among civil servants will no longer be tolerated.
Speaking to journalists, he described his findings as a mix of “the good, the bad, and the ugly,” praising diligent staff while expressing dissatisfaction with those who fail to meet time-keeping standards.
He added, “The ‘bad eggs’ will be shipped out because Anambra is an A-state and cannot afford an inefficient civil service.”
The governor highlighted his administration’s commitment to building a disciplined, agile, and result-oriented workforce.
He stressed that reforms will focus on three key pillars: deployment of technology for digital workflows, effective supervision and performance evaluation, and sustained infrastructure improvements to ensure a conducive working environment.
According to Soludo, these measures aim to transform the civil service into a high-performance system that delivers tangible results for Ndi Anambra.
During the inspection, Soludo engaged directly with personnel to gauge the prevailing work culture, commending those who consistently maintained professionalism and adherence to official working hours.
He warned that chronic absenteeism and lackluster performance will no longer be tolerated.
The governor underscored that the government has invested heavily in modernizing the secretariat, and civil servants are expected to reciprocate with dedication and productivity.
By combining technology, strict supervision, and infrastructure improvements, Soludo aims to enforce accountability and efficiency across all state departments, ensuring the civil service contributes effectively to the state’s development goals.
