I Don’t Have a New Club Yet – Super Eagles Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali Confirms Exit from Chippa United

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has confirmed that he is currently without a club following the mutual termination of his contract with South African side Chippa United.

Speaking on SABC Metro FM, the Nigerian international dismissed speculation surrounding his immediate future, stating clearly that no deal has been finalised.

“To be honest with you, I don’t have a club or a contract in front of me,” Nwabali said.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper explained that his departure from Chippa United was amicable and driven by mutual understanding rather than conflict.

“It’s an agreement that both parties will feel at peace. We wish each other well, and I can look forward to my career. I’ve been at this club for four years, and it’s been really nice working here, but we all need to move forward as players or managers,” he added.

“Football deals with happiness, and my happiness comes first.”

Nwabali Explains Chippa United Exit

Nwabali recently lost his place as Chippa United’s first-choice goalkeeper to Dumisani Msibi following his return from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with Msibi keeping four clean sheets in as many league matches.

However, the Super Eagles goalkeeper insisted that competition for the starting shirt was not the reason behind his decision to leave the club, despite having six months left on his contract.

“No, it’s not like that. Before I went for AFCON, I was injured from the Pirates game, and I was trying to fix myself to come back stronger for the team and also go to AFCON,” he explained.

He further revealed that discussions with the club’s chairman were long-standing and based on mutual respect.

“Coming back from AFCON, it was an understanding between the chairman and me.

You’re returning from a big tournament and had been playing for one month, so you really need to rest for one or two games,” Nwabali said.

“Since I arrived at this club, we’ve been talking like father and son, understanding each other literally every day. It was a difficult decision, but he felt it would be best for me—and I made the decision myself.”

Transfer Speculation Continues

Despite confirming that he is currently unattached, multiple reports link Stanley Nwabali with Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic, as transfer speculation around the Super Eagles goalkeeper continues to grow.
