The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled maintenance exercise at its Zungeru Transmission Substation in Niger State, with temporary power disruption expected in parts of the state on February 18 and 19, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the maintenance will run from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on both days. The exercise will focus on critical infrastructure, including the 150MVA 330/132/33kV transformer, the 5.5MVA 33/11kV transformer, and associated switchgears at the Zungeru facility.
TCN emphasized that the planned maintenance is part of ongoing efforts to enhance grid reliability, improve operational efficiency, and ensure optimal performance of transmission equipment. The company noted that proactive servicing of key assets is necessary to prevent unexpected breakdowns and sustain stable power supply.
Despite the maintenance, electricity distribution will continue in most areas. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) will maintain supply to customers connected to the transformer undergoing servicing by transferring load to a second 150MVA transformer within the same substation.
However, TCN confirmed that some communities will experience brief power outages during the load transfer process. Affected areas include Kontagora, Tegina, Yauri, and surrounding communities.
The company urged residents and businesses in the affected locations to take note of the scheduled maintenance window and make necessary arrangements to mitigate any inconvenience.
TCN reiterated that the temporary disruption is aimed at strengthening the transmission network and improving long-term power stability across Niger State and adjoining areas.
