National News – Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) following a rollover car crash near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday.
The 50-year-old golf superstar was uninjured after his vehicle clipped a truck while overtaking on a residential street, causing it to flip.
Law enforcement confirmed Woods refused a urine test, which led to the formal DUI charge, though he passed a breathalyser test for alcohol.
Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said drug recognition experts at the scene suspected impairment from “some kind of medication or drug.”
Under Florida law, Woods was legally entitled to refuse a urine test, meaning authorities cannot definitively confirm the substance involved.
The sheriff noted the incident “could have been a lot worse” due to the narrow two-lane street and potential traffic hazards. Woods will be held for at least eight hours at a local jail before release.
This arrest comes five years after Woods’ major car crash in California that left him with severe leg injuries requiring multiple surgeries.
Despite these setbacks, Woods returned to competitive golf at the 2022 Masters and participated in the TGL simulator indoor golf league finals earlier this week.
Woods has won 15 major titles and 82 PGA Tour events, tying the all-time record with Sam Snead. He last competed at the PGA Tour level during the 2024 British Open.
President Donald Trump, speaking in Miami, expressed sympathy for Woods, calling him an “amazing man” facing difficulties.
Woods’ career has been marked by dramatic highs and lows, including a 2009 personal scandal and recent Achilles tendon and back surgeries.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash, with property damage confirmed but no injuries reported.
