National News – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday commissioned a 60-megawatt gas turbine Independent Power Project in Bayelsa State as part of his one-day working visit to the state.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by Governor Douye Diri, former President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, former First Lady Patience Jonathan, and other top government officials and stakeholders.
The 60MW gas turbine project is expected to significantly boost electricity supply, enhance industrial development, and stimulate economic growth across Bayelsa State.

Also commissioned was the 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge, a critical infrastructure project designed to improve connectivity between riverine communities, ease transportation challenges, and open up economic opportunities in the Southern Ijaw axis of the state.
President Tinubu is also expected to engage key stakeholders in the oil and gas sector, where he will reiterate his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security and increasing Nigeria’s crude oil production to over two million barrels per day.

Ahead of the visit, Governor Diri had declared Friday a public holiday, ordered the closure of markets, and directed heightened security across Yenagoa and surrounding areas to ensure a smooth and hitch-free event.
