National News – President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation Hadin Kai, following a coordinated terrorist attack on a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State.

The attack, carried out on Thursday, April 9, 2026, left several troops dead as confirmed by the Defence Headquarters, after insurgents targeted the formation in a violent raid.

In a statement of condolence, President Bola Tinubu described the slain soldiers as “unforgettable heroes,” praising their bravery and sacrifice in the fight against terrorism in the North-East.

He commended the troops for resisting the attackers and preventing the camp from being overrun, noting that their courage had continued to deny Boko Haram and other insurgent groups control over liberated communities.

Tinubu extended condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the people of Borno State, urging them to find strength in the nation’s appreciation of the sacrifices made on the frontline.

He also encouraged military personnel not to be discouraged by the attack, stressing that ongoing operations had continued to inflict heavy losses on insurgents.

According to him, recent counter-offensives have significantly weakened terrorist networks, describing the attack as a “desperate response” by insurgents facing sustained pressure.

The President further assured that the Federal Government remains committed to strengthening the Armed Forces through improved equipment, welfare, and operational support to ensure total victory over terrorism.

He called on Nigerians and the media to continue supporting security agencies while discouraging any form of sympathy for attacks against troops, insisting that the fallen soldiers “will never be forgotten.”
