Tinubu to Commission Projects in Kebbi
During the visit — his first official trip to Kebbi State since assuming office — President Tinubu will inaugurate several developmental projects completed by the state government. The visit underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting sub-national development and cultural heritage promotion.
Argungu Festival: A Historic Cultural Celebration
The Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most historic and celebrated cultural tourism events. Held annually in Argungu town, the festival draws participants and visitors from across Nigeria and beyond.
The iconic fishing competition takes place at the historic Matan Fada, a culturally significant riverside location recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
First held in 1934, the festival began as a peace-building initiative between the Sokoto Caliphate and the Kebbi Kingdom. Over the decades, it has evolved into a major African cultural showcase celebrating tradition, unity, and the end of the farming season.
Boost for Cultural Tourism in Nigeria
With President Tinubu headlining the 2026 edition as Special Guest of Honour, the event is expected to attract increased national and international attention, further strengthening Nigeria’s cultural tourism profile.
The Argungu Festival remains one of Africa’s most vibrant cultural gatherings, blending traditional fishing competitions, music, dance, and heritage displays into a unique spectacle that promotes unity and economic growth.
