Truck Kills LASTMA Officer, Two Okada Riders at Badagry Roundabout in Lagos

A tragic road accident in Lagos has left a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer and two commercial motorcyclists dead after a cement-laden truck reportedly lost control at the busy Badagry Roundabout.

The fatal crash occurred at about 9:45 a.m. on Monday, throwing the Badagry axis into confusion and causing heavy traffic congestion. According to eyewitnesses, the truck veered off course while approaching the junction and rammed into the victims, who were at the roadside.

The deceased included a LASTMA official on traffic duty and two okada riders waiting to pick up passengers. Witnesses said the impact was sudden, sending shockwaves through commuters and traders in the area.

An official of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps confirmed that the truck struck the officer and the motorcyclists. He noted that the driver attempted to manoeuvre in a desperate bid to reduce casualties, warning that the outcome could have been far worse given the volume of vehicles and motorcycles at the roundabout.

Confirming the incident, Mr. Yusuf Sanni, Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said the driver had been arrested and taken to the Badagry Police Station. He attributed the crash to loss of control and urged motorists to avoid the area temporarily to ease traffic flow.

Sanni disclosed that the victims’ bodies were deposited at a hospital mortuary, while the truck was impounded for further investigation.

The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Folajimi Agosile, confirmed that the driver remains in custody and will be arraigned at the Chief Magistrates’ Court after investigations are completed.

Personnel from LASTMA, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the FRSC and the Nigeria Police Force were deployed to clear the wreckage and restore normalcy along the expressway.
