National News – Youths in Yobe State have urged Governor Mai Mala Buni to back a young and capable leader as his successor ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with Arewa PUNCH on Monday, the group highlighted the importance of generational change in governance, emphasizing that youthful leadership would mirror the aspirations of the majority and bring renewed energy to the state.

Ibrahim Adamu, speaking for the youth, appealed to Governor Buni to leverage his influence to promote a younger candidate.

“We are appealing to His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, to support the emergence of a young and competent successor in 2027,” he said.

Adamu explained that the appeal was not solely about age, but about fostering leadership that embodies energy, creativity, and the aspirations of the youth.

He further pointed out that young people have historically driven political mobilisation in Yobe without corresponding representation in leadership roles.

Aisha Bukar, another youth stakeholder, stressed the need for inclusive governance.

“The next leader must understand the needs of young people and ensure that women and other underrepresented groups are considered in decision-making,” she said.

She clarified that the call was constructive and not meant to diminish the achievements of Governor Buni’s administration.

The youths emphasized that their plea reflects the aspirations of many across the state.

Adamu commended the governor’s efforts in maintaining stability and developing the state, but stressed that backing a younger successor would consolidate these gains and ensure a dynamic, forward-looking future.

“Generational inclusion in leadership is essential for sustainable development,” he added.

The call coincides with nationwide advocacy for increased youth participation in leadership, as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.

The youths hope their appeal will inspire a leadership transition that is inclusive, energetic, and representative of Nigeria’s younger population.
