National News – Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised Nigerians aged 80 and above to adopt healthy living habits if they want to live beyond 90 years.

Obasanjo gave the advice on Saturday during the 80th birthday celebration of businessman and Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, Alhaji Olatunde Badmus, held in Osogbo, Osun State.

The former president, represented by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, said discipline, rest, regular exercise and moderate eating were essential for long life.

According to him, octogenarians must sleep for at least eight hours daily, engage in one hour of exercise such as walking, and reduce food intake to two meals per day.

Obasanjo praised Badmus for his achievements in business and his commitment to faith and leadership.

He described the celebrant as a successful entrepreneur who consistently placed God at the centre of his activities.

He added that following healthy lifestyle routines would improve longevity and overall wellbeing among elderly citizens.

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, also honoured Badmus during the event and announced a donation of N100 million towards the launch of a commemorative book.

Dangote recalled meeting Badmus during his early years in business and praised his ability to balance religion with entrepreneurship.

He urged young Nigerians and aspiring entrepreneurs to learn from the celebrant’s discipline, consistency and business values.

Dangote further called on Nigerians to support national unity, pray for leaders and contribute positively to nation-building.

Also speaking at the event, the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, commended Badmus for building a respected business reputation and encouraged Nigerians to emulate his patriotic and charitable lifestyle.

The birthday celebration also featured the commissioning of a mosque built by Badmus in Osogbo by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.
