National News – Former Liverpool manager and club icon Liverpool FC has called for the club to rediscover its famous “heavy metal football” identity after a painful and disappointing season.
Reflecting on his years at Anfield, he said he watched Liverpool rise from doubters to believers and eventually become champions through hard work, determination, and a fearless attacking mentality that made the club respected across Europe.
He explained that helping Liverpool return to the top of English and European football remains one of the proudest achievements of his career.
However, the recent struggles and another painful defeat this season have left supporters frustrated and demanding improvement.
According to him, Liverpool must return to being an aggressive attacking side that opponents fear, rather than a team satisfied with occasional victories.
The former manager stressed that Liverpool’s winning culture should never be compromised.
He insisted that every player and coach arriving at the club must adapt to the attacking philosophy and high standards that defined the club during its most successful years.
He added that Liverpool’s football identity is not negotiable and should remain the foundation for future success.
Speaking about expectations at the club, he said winning a few matches is not enough for a team with Liverpool’s history and global fan base.
He noted that top clubs are measured by trophies, consistency, Champions League qualification, and the ability to compete with Europe’s elite every season.
He also expressed his deep emotional connection to Liverpool, saying the club will always mean a great deal to him and his family.
Despite eventually moving on, he wants to see Liverpool continue succeeding for generations.
He maintained that securing qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League remains the bare minimum target and promised to do everything possible to help the club achieve that goal.
