National News – Former Rivers State Governor and presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the ADC presidential primary election, alleging widespread irregularities and voter disenfranchisement during the nationwide exercise held on Monday.
Amaechi described the results as “concocted” and insisted the process failed to meet the standards of fairness and transparency promised by the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former Minister of Transportation made his position known through a statement shared on his verified X handle on Tuesday.
According to him, a large percentage of party members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory were allegedly denied the opportunity to vote during the ADC presidential primary election.
Amaechi said he had earlier vowed to accept the outcome only if the process was credible, free, and transparent.
He argued that the reported electoral malpractice contradicted the ADC’s mission of providing Nigerians with a credible political alternative to the ruling APC.
He also accused party officials of engaging in vote manipulation and result writing similar to practices often criticised in Nigeria’s political system.
Economist and fellow aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen also distanced himself from the process.
Hayatu-Deen boycotted the final collation and declaration ceremony in Abuja, citing reports of vote rigging and irregularities observed during the exercise.
However, he did not directly accuse any individual or faction within the party.
Despite the protests, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar maintained a commanding lead in the results announced from several states, including Adamawa, Kano, Sokoto, Gombe, and Enugu.
Amaechi recorded victories in Akwa Ibom and Ebonyi states, while collation continued at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja under the supervision of party officials and observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The ADC leadership has urged aggrieved aspirants to channel their complaints through internal party mechanisms, maintaining that no conclusive evidence of rigging has been established so far.
