Driver Killed in Lagos Expressway SUV Crash

National News – A driver lost his life in a fatal road accident on Saturday morning after a Honda Pilot SUV crashed and somersaulted several times along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway at Charity Bus Stop inward Iyana Isolo, Lagos State.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of the day, leaving the vehicle severely damaged and causing concern among motorists in the area.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the lone accident happened when the driver reportedly lost control of the sport utility vehicle while travelling on the busy expressway.

The SUV overturned multiple times before coming to a stop, trapping the victim inside the wreckage.

Officials of LASTMA, who were carrying out routine traffic monitoring in the Iyana Isolo corridor, responded immediately to the emergency.

Working alongside officers from the Mosafejo Police Division, they successfully recovered the victim from the mangled vehicle and secured the accident scene to prevent further incidents.

Authorities said the impact of the crash was severe, leading to the driver’s instant death.

The remains were later evacuated by officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit and taken to a public mortuary, while the damaged vehicle was handed over to the police for further investigation.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy to the deceased’s family and urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations.

He warned against excessive speeding, reckless driving, and dangerous overtaking, stressing that road safety should remain a top priority for all road users.

The accident adds to growing concerns over road safety on major highways in Lagos, particularly incidents linked to speeding and loss of vehicle control.

Authorities continue to advise drivers to exercise caution and obey traffic rules to reduce avoidable road fatalities.
