National News – Aliyu Bin Abbas, a former aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) for the 2027 Nigerian presidential election.
Abbas secured the party’s ticket during the ADP National Convention held in Abuja in the early hours of Saturday, marking a significant development in the country’s evolving political landscape.
The announcement was made at approximately 5:30 a.m. following the conclusion of the convention.
Abbas, who is also the founder of the National Youth Alliance, was declared the party’s standard-bearer amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Okpani Dickson, Abbas’ presidential bid is independent and not connected to his former principal, Atiku Abubakar, who is pursuing his own presidential ambition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Dickson explained that Abbas and Atiku parted ways politically more than two years ago, and the ADP candidate is now charting his own political course.
Speaking after his emergence, Abbas described the victory as a turning point for youth participation and national development.
He said his campaign would focus on inclusive governance, economic transformation, job creation, national unity, and empowering young Nigerians.
The ADP candidate called on citizens across ethnic, religious, and political divides to unite behind a shared vision for progress, justice, and prosperity.
He emphasized that his movement represents a fresh direction for Nigeria and a commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
Earlier, ADP National Chairman Yabagi Yusuf Sani praised party members for their dedication and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and responsible leadership.
He stated that Nigeria needs leaders who view public office as a responsibility rather than an avenue for personal gain.
The convention highlighted the ADP’s efforts to position itself as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections, with Abbas now leading the party’s campaign for the nation’s highest office.
