Natasha Calls for Digital Intelligence to Strengthen Nigeria’s Fight Against Terrorism

By Rita Amaechi

National News – The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has called on Nigeria and other African countries to embrace digital intelligence and emerging technologies as critical tools in the fight against terrorism and other security threats.

Speaking during a high-level international security engagement, the senator said the rapidly evolving nature of terrorism requires governments to move beyond conventional security measures by investing in digital intelligence, artificial intelligence, data analytics and other technology-driven solutions to detect, prevent and respond to terrorist activities.

According to her, terrorist groups are increasingly exploiting digital platforms, encrypted communications and emerging technologies to coordinate attacks, recruit members and spread extremist propaganda, making it imperative for governments to strengthen their technological capabilities.

Natasha stressed that intelligence gathering remains one of the most effective weapons against terrorism, urging African governments to deepen collaboration, improve information sharing and invest in modern surveillance systems capable of identifying security threats before they materialise.

She also called for stronger partnerships among governments, security agencies, technology companies and international organisations to enhance counter-terrorism efforts across the continent.

The lawmaker noted that while technology presents new security challenges, it also offers powerful opportunities to combat terrorism through predictive analysis, real-time monitoring and intelligence-led operations.

She further urged policymakers to develop legal and institutional frameworks that encourage innovation while protecting citizens’ rights and ensuring that digital tools are deployed responsibly.

Natasha maintained that sustainable peace and security in Africa would depend on governments’ willingness to adopt innovative solutions and strengthen regional cooperation against terrorism.

Her remarks come at a time when countries around the world are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence, digital intelligence and advanced technologies to improve counter-terrorism operations and intelligence gathering.
