National News – Former Governor of Sokoto State and ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, has called on Nigerians to democratically vote out President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 general elections, alleging that the Federal Government has failed to address insecurity and other national challenges.
Tambuwal made the remarks on Wednesday in Sokoto while receiving the immediate past Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, Isa Salihu Bashir Kalanjeni, into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and exit from office.
Describing Kalanjeni’s defection as a “homecoming,” Tambuwal said the former council chairman had maintained cordial relations with ADC members despite his previous departure from the party.
He commended Kalanjeni for avoiding political insults while in the APC, saying such conduct reflected the values of the ADC.
Tambuwal also described Kalanjeni’s decision to resign from both the APC and his elective office as courageous, noting that many politicians were unwilling to leave the ruling party because of perceived political pressure.
According to him, only politicians driven by national interest rather than personal ambition would choose to join the ADC.
The former governor further alleged that efforts to weaken the ADC had failed, claiming the party’s growing popularity had unsettled the ruling establishment.
He urged members of the opposition party to remain disciplined and avoid abusive political rhetoric as they prepare for the 2027 elections.
Linking the country’s security challenges to what he described as poor governance, Tambuwal cited recent attacks in parts of Sokoto State, including communities in Bodinga Local Government Area, as evidence that the current administration had not effectively tackled insecurity.
He appealed to Nigerians to use constitutional and democratic means to effect a change of government during the next general election.
Kalanjeni resigned as Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area and dumped the APC earlier this week after months of speculation over his political future.
He was formally received into the ADC by Tambuwal alongside the party’s Sokoto State governorship candidate, Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya, State Chairman Abdullahi Maigwandu, and other party leaders.
His defection is seen as part of the growing political realignments in Sokoto State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
