The All Progressives Congress (APC) is fully prepared to reclaim Osun State in the forthcoming 2026 governorship election, according to Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, the lawmaker said the APC has intensified efforts to strengthen its grassroots presence across communities in the state through massive voter sensitisation and mobilisation ahead of the August 8, 2026 poll.
Fadahunsi, a former Comptroller-General of Customs, also raised concerns over security challenges within his senatorial district, revealing that at least 15 people were killed by suspected non-state actors across 10 local government areas as of December last year.
“As of December last year, we lost nothing less than 15 people in my district. How will I be looking without doing anything? Most of these killings were instigated by misrule, and we are addressing that,” he said.
Dismissing claims of internal crisis within the APC in Obokun Local Government Area, the senator insisted that the party remains united and focused on victory, stressing that President Bola Tinubu is keen on reclaiming Osun State for the APC.
“I am very confident that APC will take over Osun. Crises are for human beings to manage. I have not heard of any crisis in Obokun Local Government. If the President wants his party to win in Osun, there is nothing anybody can do to stop it,” Fadahunsi said.
On preparations for the election, the senator disclosed that the party would soon inaugurate its campaign committee, noting that all activities would strictly follow the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable.
He also expressed strong confidence in the APC’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, describing him as eminently qualified and capable of winning the election.
“Oyebamiji is a qualified chartered banker and more than capable of being governor. You can’t compare him with anyone. He will win the poll,” he added.
Osun voters are scheduled to elect a new governor on August 8, 2026. The incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
Other contenders include Bola Oyebamiji of the APC and Dr. Najeem Salaam, a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, who is contesting under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
