The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has expressed deep condolences to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, following a road accident involving journalists covering the commission’s project inauguration in Bauchi State.
The incident occurred on Friday, February 6, along the Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area, while media personnel were returning from the inauguration and handover of completed NEDC projects across the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Bauchi, the Head of Corporate Services at NEDC, Abba Musa, said the commission was saddened by the crash, which involved members of the media assigned to cover the official exercise.
Musa disclosed that the NEDC governing board has approved full medical care for all injured journalists, alongside support for their families, as part of the commission’s response to the incident.
He added that the commission was actively reaching out to affected media organisations and the families of the victims, assuring them of NEDC’s commitment to their recovery and welfare.
Journalists injured in the accident include personnel from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), The Guardian, The Nation, and cameramen and correspondents of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
Others affected are reporters from Channels Television, ARISE News, Africa Independent Television (AIT), Bauchi Radio Corporation, Bauchi State Television, as well as an online media reporter.
