Russia has carried out a massive attack on Ukraine’s power grid, causing widespread energy outages across the country, according to state grid operator Ukrenergo. The assault comes as the two nations continue US-brokered peace talks aimed at ending the nearly four-year conflict.
In a statement on Telegram, Ukrenergo said Saturday:
“Russia is carrying out another massive attack on the Ukrainian power grid facilities.
Emergency outages have been applied in most regions due to the damage caused by the enemy. The attack is ongoing, and restoration work will begin once the security situation allows.”
Ukrainian officials have accused Moscow of deliberately targeting energy infrastructure, leaving hundreds of thousands without electricity or heating amid sub-zero temperatures.
Despite the continued violence, Ukraine and Russia have participated in two rounds of US-mediated negotiations in Abu Dhabi since January. While both sides agreed on a major prisoner swap, no progress has been made on territorial disputes, which remain a major obstacle in peace talks.
Adding to tensions, Moscow accused Ukraine of orchestrating the shooting of a top Russian military intelligence general in Moscow on Friday. Kyiv has not commented on the incident.
This latest attack highlights the ongoing humanitarian impact of the conflict, with millions facing energy shortages and critical infrastructure damage during the harsh winter months.
