National News – Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen may undergo surgery after suffering a fractured arm during UEFA Champions League action between Galatasaray and Liverpool F.C. on Wednesday night.
The injury occurred in the Round of 16 second-leg clash, where Liverpool secured a dominant 4-0 victory to eliminate the Turkish champions from the competition.
The incident happened early in the match when Osimhen collided with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté while contesting an aerial ball.
During the challenge, Konaté landed awkwardly on the Nigerian forward’s arm, leaving him visibly uncomfortable and clutching his forearm on the pitch.
Despite the painful blow, Osimhen initially continued playing with his arm tightly wrapped in bandage support.
Some Liverpool players reportedly believed the striker was exaggerating the situation to slow the tempo of the game.
However, medical concerns forced Galatasaray’s technical team to withdraw him at halftime to avoid worsening the suspected fracture.
Subsequent medical examinations carried out under the supervision of the club’s doctors confirmed a fracture in Osimhen’s right forearm.
The arm was immediately placed in a protective medical cast, while further evaluation will determine whether surgical intervention is required to aid recovery.
Galatasaray officials stated that the final decision regarding surgery will be made after additional assessments in the coming days.
The club remains hopeful that the Nigerian forward will recover quickly and return to action once treatment and rehabilitation plans are confirmed.
Osimhen has been one of Galatasaray’s standout performers this season in Europe.
Before the injury setback, the prolific striker recorded seven goals and three assists in ten Champions League appearances, earning multiple man-of-the-match awards for his outstanding performances.
Meanwhile, Osimhen’s substitute, Noa Lang, also suffered an injury during the match.
The Dutch winger sustained a deep cut on his right thumb and is expected to undergo surgery in Liverpool before rejoining the team in Turkey.
The injury raises concerns for both Galatasaray supporters and Nigerian football fans, who will be closely monitoring Osimhen’s recovery timeline ahead of upcoming club and international fixtures.
