National News – Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to visit Zamfara State on Tuesday to formally welcome Governor Dauda Lawal into the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the governor’s recent defection to the ruling party.
The planned visit is part of political activities aimed at strengthening the party’s influence in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Zamfara State Chairman of the APC, Tukur Danfulani Maikatako, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Gusau, the state capital, on Saturday.
According to him, the vice president will attend the official reception alongside other national leaders of the party to mark the governor’s return to the APC.
Maikatako described the development as a significant political shift in Zamfara, noting that the state has historically been considered a stronghold of the ruling party.
He explained that Governor Lawal was previously associated with the APC before leaving the party earlier in his political career.
The party chairman urged APC members across the 147 wards and 14 local government areas of the state to mobilise support and participate actively in the reception ceremony.
He said the visit by the vice president would serve as a major opportunity to unify party members and strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.
Maikatako also appealed to party faithful to set aside internal divisions and work collectively for the success of the APC in Zamfara.
According to him, unity among party members will be critical as political parties across Nigeria begin early preparations for the next general election cycle.
Former Zamfara APC chairman Lawal M. Liman also called on members and supporters of the party to spread the message of unity across their communities.
He encouraged stakeholders to rally behind the party’s leadership and ensure a strong turnout during the vice president’s visit.
Political observers say the governor’s return to the APC could reshape the political landscape in Zamfara State, especially as major parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 elections.
The planned reception is expected to attract party leaders, supporters, and political stakeholders from across the state, further highlighting the strategic importance of Zamfara in Nigeria’s evolving political dynamics.
