National News – A prominent group within the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Action Grassroot Alliance for Hakeem Muri-Okunola, has officially thrown its support behind Hakeem Muri-Okunola, the Principal Secretary to the President, to contest the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.

During a press briefing in Ikeja, the group’s Director-General, Mrs. Salewa Adegbenro, emphasized that Lagos’ future will be brighter under his leadership.

She urged Muri-Okunola to heed the call of the people and serve the state for continued progress and unity.

The media director of the group, Ziggy Ibeh, described Muri-Okunola as a competent political figure capable of steering Lagos in a positive direction.

He noted that if elected, Muri-Okunola would build on the legacies of the current governor, whose tenure ends in 2027.

While Muri-Okunola has not formally announced his candidacy, speculation has grown following his voluntary retirement in February 2026 after many years of service under President Bola Tinubu.

Notably, he served as a Personal Assistant to Tinubu during his tenure as Lagos governor and remains a key member of the President’s inner circle.

Earlier this week, President Tinubu directed all political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 elections to resign their positions by March 31, 2026.

This directive covers ministers, special advisers, personal assistants, directors-general, and other political appointees.

Observers say Muri-Okunola’s exit from government service aligns with this mandate, fueling speculation that he may soon formally declare his gubernatorial ambition.
