National News – A tragic military helicopter crash in Qatar has claimed the lives of six people, while one person remains missing after the aircraft plunged into the country’s territorial waters during a routine mission.
The incident has raised concerns about safety and operational risks amid heightened military activity in the Middle East.
According to officials from the Qatar Ministry of Defence, the helicopter crashed on Sunday after experiencing a technical malfunction while conducting a routine operation.
Authorities stressed that there was no evidence linking the crash to hostile action, despite the tense security climate across the region.
Reports indicate that seven individuals were on board the aircraft at the time of the crash.
Rescue teams quickly launched search and recovery operations after the helicopter went down in Qatari waters.
Six occupants were later confirmed dead, while one person remains missing as emergency teams continue to comb the area.
The victims include members of the Qatar Armed Forces and personnel connected to Turkish military operations in the country.
Authorities identified some of the deceased as Captain (Pilot) Mubarak Al-Marri, Sergeant Fahad Al-Khayarin, and Corporal Mohammed Mohammed.
Also among those killed were Major Sinan Tastekin from the Qatar-Türkiye Joint Forces and two Turkish civilian collaborators, Suleiman Kahraman and Ismail Can.
Officials confirmed that specialised search teams are still working to locate the final missing occupant, believed to be the pilot of the ill-fated helicopter.
The Ministry of Interior said recovery efforts are ongoing and pledged to provide updates as operations continue.
The Turkish Ministry of Defence also acknowledged the incident, confirming that one Turkish soldier and two personnel affiliated with the Turkish defence company Aselsan were among those killed.
Authorities in both countries have expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
Investigations are now underway to determine the exact cause of the crash. Preliminary findings suggest a mechanical failure during what officials described as a training flight.
The tragedy comes at a sensitive time in the Middle East, as tensions remain high due to ongoing geopolitical conflicts involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
Qatar, which often plays a diplomatic role in regional negotiations, now faces renewed attention following the fatal crash.
