National News – Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has arrived in Istanbul for medical scans after suffering an arm fracture during UEFA Champions League action last week.

The 27-year-old Galatasaray forward sustained the injury on Wednesday during a round-of-16 second-leg clash against Liverpool FC at Anfield.

Club doctors are expected to assess the severity of the fracture on Monday to determine whether surgery will be necessary and how long the Nigerian international could be sidelined.

Osimhen suffered the injury after a heavy challenge from Ibrahima Konaté in the first half of the high-intensity European tie.

Although he initially continued playing, medical checks during halftime revealed concerns about a possible fracture, forcing the striker to sit out the second half of the match.

Subsequent hospital examinations confirmed a fracture in his right forearm, which was immediately placed in a cast while further evaluation was scheduled.

According to Turkish football reports, the striker returned to Istanbul on Sunday night ahead of detailed medical examinations planned for Monday.

The scans will determine whether the injury can heal with conservative treatment or if surgery will be required to stabilise the fracture.

Medical staff will base the decision on the condition and healing potential of the damaged bone.

The injury has raised concerns for Galatasaray, who rely heavily on Osimhen’s attacking contributions this season.

Early estimates suggest the striker could be out of action for between three and five months if surgery becomes necessary, a timeline that could affect the club’s ambitions in domestic competitions.

Despite their elimination from the Champions League, Galatasaray remain firmly in the race for the Turkish Super Lig title and domestic cup honours.

Osimhen has been a key figure in the team’s campaign, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.

His performances in Europe were also notable, recording seven goals and three assists in 10 Champions League matches before the club’s exit.

The injury has also ruled the forward out of Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Jordan and Iran scheduled to be played in Turkey.
