National News — The Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture (NDCCITMA) has unveiled plans to attract up to $5 billion in structured investments into the Niger Delta region over the next five years.

Chairman of the chamber, Idaere Gogo Ogan, disclosed this during a pre-summit press conference ahead of the Niger Delta Economic and Investment Summit scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt, according to a statement signed and issued to newsmen on Monday by Mr. Ono K. Akpe, the Consultant on Media and Sponsorship.

According to the statement, Ogan said the initiative is expected to generate no fewer than 500,000 direct and indirect jobs, while boosting wealth creation and accelerating economic growth across the region.

He explained that the summit, themed “Driving Investment, Innovation, and Industrial Growth in the Niger Delta,” will take place from May 19 to 21, 2026, and will focus on investment mobilisation, enterprise development, industrial expansion, and regional coordination.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected as the special guest, while Barbados Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley, will deliver the keynote address.

Ogan noted that the recent Niger Delta Business Roundtable, which brought together policymakers, investors, entrepreneurs, and development partners from across the nine Niger Delta states, emphasized the need for the region to move from ambition to implementation.

Also, the Secretary of NDCCITMA and Chairman of the summit’s Local Organising Committee, Solomon Edebiri, described the summit as a strategic initiative aimed at repositioning the region as a competitive hub for investment, enterprise development, and sustainable industrialisation.

Edebiri said that while the Niger Delta is widely known for its contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, its true strength lies in its untapped opportunities and diverse economic potential, which the summit seeks to unlock.

He added that the organising committee has rolled out a series of promotional activities, including roadshows across Niger Delta states, Lagos, and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as follow-up media engagements.

Dignitaries present at the press conference included Chief Kelechi Obilor, Financial Secretary of NDCCITMA; Mrs. Boma Jack, Board Member; and Hon. Marcel Odunze, Board Member, among others.
