National News – The Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally approached the Supreme Court to challenge the Court of Appeal decision nullifying its 2025 national convention.
The decision was confirmed at the party’s 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, supported by Oyo and Bauchi State governors, Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, emphasized that legal redress will continue while reconciliation talks progress.
During a press briefing in Abuja, Ememobong said, “Decisions taken by the NWC and Board of Trustees were deliberated upon and ratified by NEC.
These include pursuing reconciliation, ratifying the Supreme Court appeal, and ensuring successful e-registration.”
He added that filing the appeal would not hinder reconciliation, explaining that courts usually allow discontinuance if terms are agreed upon.
The PDP leadership described reconciliation as a journey marked by progress, noting reduced hostility and a cessation of harsh statements.
PDP National Chairman, Turaki, reassured members that the party remains focused on maintaining a credible platform for 2027 elections.
“The leadership is working assiduously to ensure PDP remains a veritable platform for all members wishing to contest elections.
We aim to keep the PDP strong and competitive,” he said.
The PDP House of Representatives Caucus Leader, Fred Agbedi, urged members to resist financial inducements, stressing unity against opponents.
Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, reiterated support for Turaki, criticizing unilateral appointments by rival factions.
The party has been divided for nearly three years. While Turaki’s faction held a convention in Ibadan, electing new NWC officials in November 2025, the Wike-aligned faction established a caretaker committee in December 2025.
The Court of Appeal nullified the Ibadan convention in March 2026, citing violations of the Electoral Act, Nigerian Constitution, and PDP Constitution.
A separate court panel encouraged an amicable resolution, though ongoing disagreements suggest reconciliation is gradual. Turaki confirmed that talks between factions have resumed.
