National News – Miracle Ezechukwu has confirmed her status as Nigeria’s fastest young female sprinter by defending her Junior 100m title at the MTN CHAMPS Continental Relays in Jos.
Competing at the New Jos Stadium, Plateau State, Ezechukwu clocked 11.42 seconds in the final, following a personal best of 11.26s in the semifinals.
This performance sets a new national U-20 record, leads Nigeria’s seasonal rankings, and places her joint fifth on the Nigerian U-20 all-time list.
Ezechukwu’s teammates and other standout athletes also impressed. Lucy Nwankwo finished second in the Junior women’s 100m with 11.65s, while Rosemary Nwankwo claimed third at 11.78s.
On the men’s side, Emmanuel Akolo won the Junior 100m in a wind-aided 10.63s, with Reuben Destiny and Alvin Onyeama completing the podium.
Team MTN’s Toheebat Jimoh achieved a remarkable double, winning the women’s 100m in a personal best of 12.03s and finishing second in the 400m at 53.88s.
Okechukwu Ezeh dominated the men’s 100m with 10.61s, followed by Aina Precious and Enoch Dabo.
The Youth category highlighted new talent: Fervent Edet captured the Boys’ 100m gold in 11.15s, while Rebecca Enilolobo won the Youth Girls’ 100m.
Cadet competitions saw Honor Anthony (Girls) and Attach Boyi (Boys) secure victories in their respective 100m events.
The 400m races produced thrilling results, with Ezekiel Asuquo posting a personal best of 46.26s in the men’s event and Chizoba Onyemauwa recording 58.19s in the Youth Girls’ 400m.
Junior men’s 400m champion Michael Aniche confirmed his Calabar win with 48.19s.
This competition, attracting top sprinters from across Nigeria, showcased exceptional speed, technique, and athletic excellence.
Ezechukwu’s record-setting performance underscores her potential on the global stage and continues Nigeria’s proud legacy in sprinting.
