National News – Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, alongside former governors Aminu Tambuwal and Rotimi Amaechi, has paid condolence visits to former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
The leaders visited El-Rufai’s residence in Abuja on Saturday to sympathise with him and his family during the difficult moment. The late matriarch reportedly died in Cairo, Egypt, after a period of illness.
El-Rufai had earlier been granted temporary bail by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to allow him participate in the burial rites of his late mother.
The development enabled the former Kaduna governor to return home and receive sympathisers who came to offer prayers and support to the bereaved family.
Leading a delegation during the condolence visit, Atiku said the visit was meant to show solidarity with El-Rufai and his family over what he described as an irreplaceable loss.
He noted that losing a mother is deeply painful and prayed that the late Hajiya Umma El-Rufai would be granted eternal rest.
Atiku added that despite the grief, El-Rufai remained strong and steadfast in faith.
According to him, the former governor showed remarkable courage during the mourning period, and he encouraged him to remain hopeful while trusting God for comfort and healing.
Tambuwal, who also visited the Abuja residence with members of his political team, described the loss of a mother as a profoundly personal tragedy.
He said they shared in the sorrow of the family and prayed for divine mercy for the deceased and strength for the bereaved.
Similarly, Amaechi expressed sympathy with El-Rufai, urging the family to remain united and comforted by the legacy and memories left behind by the late matriarch.
The condolence visits highlight the strong political and personal ties among Nigeria’s prominent political figures, many of whom continue to show support for one another during moments of grief and national attention.
