National News – President Bola Tinubu has chosen to celebrate his 74th birthday quietly, citing the current national mood and pressing challenges in Nigeria.
In a personal statement released on Sunday, Tinubu thanked Nigerians for their goodwill messages and explained that the subdued celebration aligns with his tradition of observing birthdays in line with the nation’s mood.
Tinubu expressed gratitude to citizens for their support, love, and prayers, noting that such encouragement strengthens his administration.
He also acknowledged those who publicly celebrated him through adverts, radio, and television airtime, extending special thanks to his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their remarks.
Reflecting on the state of the country, the president noted that while significant challenges have arisen since introducing key reforms, there are signs of progress.
He said, “As I mark this special day, I am reminded of the challenges we’ve faced since we initiated our reforms.
I’m glad that our sacrifices have not been in vain, as we can see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.”
Tinubu highlighted that recent global tensions, particularly in the Middle East, have posed some setbacks, but emphasized that the gains achieved so far are a collective effort.
Looking forward, Tinubu pledged to continue addressing Nigeria’s challenges and urged citizens to remain united and committed to nation-building.
“We are determined to confront some of the challenges we face today, and with your continued support, we shall overcome.
Let us continue to work together to build a stronger, prosperous, and more resilient nation that will make Nigeria the pride of Africa,” he said.
