National News – The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a violent attack in the Angwan Rukuba community.

The curfew, effective from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026, comes after gunmen reportedly stormed the area on motorcycles, targeting residents and passersby.

Authorities confirmed multiple casualties, with at least six people killed and several others injured.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the incident as “barbaric and unprovoked,” pledging swift action to apprehend the perpetrators.

Residents described the attack as sudden and terrifying. John Caleb, a local resident, reported, “We have been badly hit by unknown gunmen.

Six people are dead, and several others are at Luna Hospital.” Another resident, Janet Pam, added, “They shot at people on the road and roadside vendors. It was pure terrorism.

The attackers fled on motorcycles before security forces arrived.” The violence caused panic and temporary road blockages, which were later cleared by security operatives.

Plateau State has experienced an increase in violent incidents in rural communities and Jos North in recent months.

In previous attacks, including one in Kanam Local Government Area, at least 20 security operatives and vigilantes were killed.

Similar violent episodes in 2025 and 2023 left hundreds dead and displaced thousands. Residents have repeatedly called for stronger security measures, including restrictions on commercial motorcycles in Jos and Bukuru metropolis.

The Plateau State Government, in coordination with security agencies, has vowed to restore peace and protect lives.

Authorities urged residents to comply with the curfew and report any suspicious activities.

The recent surge in attacks highlights the ongoing challenges of maintaining safety and stability in Plateau communities and neighboring states.
