National News – The Lagos State Government (LASG) has intensified efforts to prevent infections in primary healthcare facilities by distributing essential infection prevention materials to 67 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in Ibeju-Lekki, Eti-Osa, and Epe areas.
The distribution, held at Health District III in Ikoyi on Friday, included personal protective equipment (PPE), sterilization tools, and modern waste management systems.
LASG aims to achieve zero transmission of infections in all district PHCs and enhance the safety of both healthcare workers and patients.
Monsurat Adeleke, Permanent Secretary of Health District III, stated that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen clinical governance and safety standards across the state’s healthcare facilities.
“Our goal is zero transmission. Every PHC must be a sanctuary of healing where safety standards are uncompromising,” Adeleke said.
She emphasized that the program is not only about supplying materials but also about establishing sustainable infection prevention and control (IPC) systems within the facilities.
Addressing Medical Officers and Officers-in-Charge, Adeleke urged strict compliance with IPC protocols and warned that monitoring visits would evaluate proper usage of the materials.
The initiative aligns with LASG’s THEMES Plus Agenda, aiming to improve clinical excellence, boost staff confidence, and build community trust in the healthcare system.
Reacting on behalf of the PHCs, Christy Agboola, Medical Officer of Health for Ibeju-Lekki, expressed gratitude to LASG for prioritizing healthcare worker welfare.
She encouraged staff to use the supplies effectively to prevent hospital-acquired infections and safeguard patient health.
The distribution of infection prevention materials underscores LASG’s commitment to modernizing primary healthcare services and creating safe environments for medical care.
By providing PPE, sterilization tools, and waste management systems, the state ensures uniform high safety standards across Health District III.
This intervention demonstrates LASG’s proactive approach to infection control, workplace safety, and public confidence in healthcare delivery.
