National News – A recent survey by the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) reveals overwhelming fan dissatisfaction with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the English Premier League.

Nearly 8,000 supporters from all 20 top-flight clubs participated, with over 90% indicating that VAR has negatively impacted their matchday experience.

Fans highlighted the delays, reduced spontaneity in goal celebrations, and uncertainty surrounding decisions as key concerns.

The FSA survey also found that 91% of respondents said VAR diminishes the joy of celebrating goals, while 94% disagreed that it improves television viewing.

Thomas Concannon, Premier League network manager for the FSA, told reporters, “The results show that most fans want VAR removed.

Supporters are frustrated with delays, accuracy issues, and the overall impact on the excitement of football.”

The Premier League responded by acknowledging fans’ concerns but defended the continued use of VAR, emphasizing ongoing improvements.

In a statement, the league said, “We recognize the importance of minimizing VAR’s impact on supporter experience.

Our research indicates that while fans desire refinements, many still support keeping VAR.”

This divide underscores the tension between football authorities and supporters.

While fans call for the complete removal of VAR, league officials continue to refine the technology to improve match flow and decision accuracy without abandoning it.
