National News – A United States congressman, Riley Moore, has raised serious concerns over repeated attacks on Christians in Nigeria, following a deadly Palm Sunday assault in Jos, Plateau State.

The lawmaker warned that such incidents could negatively affect diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the US if urgent actions are not taken.

Reports indicate that at least 10 Christians were killed in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos, on Sunday, March 29, when assailants reportedly opened fire before attacking worshippers with machetes.

Moore condemned the attack in a post on X, describing it as part of a disturbing pattern of violence against Christians during religious events.

He noted that such attacks have occurred during most Christian holy days in Nigeria, underscoring the urgent need for preventive measures.

Moore, who previously joined a US fact-finding mission on alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to take decisive steps to safeguard worshippers during upcoming religious celebrations.

“Abuja must significantly strengthen security for the Triduum and Easter. Failure to protect our brothers and sisters in Christ will have serious consequences for Nigeria-US relations,” Moore said.

The lawmaker emphasized the growing threat of radical Islamic extremists targeting Christians across Nigeria, citing repeated massacres on religious holidays.

He highlighted the March 29 killings as a recent example of such brutality and stressed that the federal government must mobilize law enforcement to prevent further bloodshed.

Security experts suggest that better coordination between local authorities, intelligence services, and community leaders could help reduce such attacks.

The incident in Jos has sparked outrage across the country, prompting calls for immediate government intervention.

The US lawmaker’s warning comes amid growing international scrutiny of Nigeria’s handling of sectarian violence, signaling that failure to act could strain foreign relations and impact diplomatic and economic cooperation.
