National News – The Federal High Court in Abuja has declined a request seeking to bar Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Justice Peter Lifu ruled against an ex parte application filed by some Wuse ward leaders who alleged that the senator had been suspended for anti-party activities.
The ward leaders, reportedly loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, asked the court to prevent Kingibe from representing or attending ADC meetings.
They claimed her suspension on March 10, 2026, followed due process and was ratified by two-thirds of the ward executive committee.
However, the court emphasized that justice requires giving both parties the chance to present their cases.
Justice Lifu ordered that all court processes be served on the senator so she could respond to the allegations.
The plaintiffs, Okezuo Anayo and Isaiah Samuel, filed suit FHC/ABJ/CV/539/2026, listing Kingibe as the sole defendant.
They argued that she continued holding parallel meetings, issuing press statements, and allegedly using security aides to intimidate ward executives, actions they described as violating party rules.
The plaintiffs sought an interim injunction barring her from participating in party activities, including administrative matters and the ward register.
Representing Senator Kingibe, lawyer Abubakar Marshall informed the court that a preliminary objection had been filed, challenging the suit.
Justice Lifu adjourned the matter to April 20, 2026, for hearing of all pending applications.
The decision underscores the court’s careful approach to political disputes, ensuring fairness and due process.
Senator Ireti Kingibe represents the Federal Capital Territory in the Senate, and this ruling allows her to continue her political activities while the case proceeds.
The ADC leadership tussle remains under close observation as the April hearing approaches.
