National News – British singer-songwriter Arlo Parks has revealed how stepping away from constant touring and immersing herself in nightlife culture inspired her new album, Ambiguous Desire.

The 25-year-old musician, who first gained global recognition after winning the Mercury Prize for her debut album Collapsed In Sunbeams, says the project reflects a personal shift toward living more freely and embracing collective experiences on dance floors.

The album was created after Parks spent months exploring club culture, meeting strangers and reconnecting with everyday life following years of intense touring schedules.

Parks, whose real name is Anais Marinho, explained that the idea for the record developed during a night out in New York when she unexpectedly helped comfort a stranger going through relationship drama in a nightclub.

According to the singer, that moment of shared emotion among strangers on the dance floor captured the atmosphere she wanted to explore in her music.

The album marks a stylistic shift from the quiet, introspective tone of Parks’ earlier records.

Instead of soft ballads, Ambiguous Desire leans into electronic rhythms, dance beats and club-influenced sounds while maintaining the emotional storytelling that made her popular with fans worldwide.

Songs on the album draw inspiration from real-life experiences, including searching for friends in crowded venues, dancing through heartbreak and hosting after-parties at home.

Parks said the creative process involved researching club culture, studying classic DJ sets and blending those influences with her poetic songwriting style.

Ultimately, the singer says the project represents a new outlook on life and music.

By learning to live more in the moment, Parks believes fleeting moments of joy, connection and vulnerability can become powerful creative fuel that resonates deeply with listeners.
