National News – Taiwo Fasoranti, the Secretary to the Government of Ondo State, has resigned from his position to contest for the Ondo Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general election.

The resignation was announced on Friday, April 3, 2026, through a letter he made available to journalists, confirming his intention to seek the senatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress.

Fasoranti, who is the son of Reuben Fasoranti, a prominent Yoruba leader and national head of the socio-political group Afenifere, stated that his decision was driven by a commitment to public service and a desire to contribute more directly to national legislative work.

He had been appointed Secretary to the State Government in 2024 by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa shortly after the governor assumed office.

Explaining why he decided to run for the Senate, Fasoranti said his more than three decades of experience in medicine and public administration prepared him for national legislative responsibilities.

He previously worked at the State House Medical Centre in Abuja, where he rose to the directorate level before retiring from the federal civil service in 2024.

In his resignation letter, Fasoranti formally declared his interest in representing the people of Ondo Central in the Senate.

He said his ambition is rooted in a vision of purposeful representation that reflects the aspirations and needs of his constituents.

“I hereby formally express my interest in contesting for the position of Senator representing the good people of Ondo Central Senatorial District,” he wrote.

“This decision is borne out of a deep sense of responsibility, a lifelong commitment to public service, and a firm belief in the immense potential of our people.”

The former SSG also emphasized the values that guide his political journey, including humility, integrity, and dedication.

According to him, these principles shaped his professional career and will influence his legislative approach if elected.

Fasoranti further appealed to residents and political stakeholders in Ondo Central to support his bid ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said his goal is to listen closely to the concerns of the electorate and transform their expectations into meaningful legislative action at the national level.
