National News – A grieving mother, Mrs Favour Ayuba, has sparked widespread reactions after placing a cutlass in the coffin of her son, Promise Ayuba, urging him to avenge his death following a deadly terrorist attack in Jos, Plateau State.

The emotional incident occurred days after gunmen killed at least 24 residents in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area on March 29, 2026, during Palm Sunday violence that left many injured and families devastated.

The heartbreaking moment, captured in a viral video circulating on social media on Friday, showed the bereaved mother speaking in Hausa while clutching the body of her son.

In the footage, Mrs Ayuba removed a cutlass wrapped in a white cloth from beneath her garment and placed it inside the coffin, symbolically urging her late son to seek revenge for the attack that claimed his life.

According to Mrs Ayuba, the loss of her son has left her emotionally shattered.

She revealed that she had not eaten since the day of the attack due to overwhelming grief and pain.

Speaking through tears, she pleaded with her late son to avenge his death wherever his killers might be.

“If you want me to forget, baby, avenge your death. I carried you in my womb for nine months and you suckled at my breast,” she cried in the video while mourners sobbed in the background.

The grieving mother also noted that the day she made the emotional appeal coincided with what would have been her son’s birthday. Despite her sorrow, she told him she would try to stay strong.

“I have not eaten since Sunday because you are not here to warm food for me. But from today I promise I will eat,” she said.

Mrs Ayuba referenced the biblical figure Gideon, explaining that she named her son Promise Gideon Ayuba after the warrior in the Bible who went to battle and returned victorious.

The March 29 attack in Angwan Rukuba is part of a series of violent incidents that have troubled Plateau State in recent years.

Residents have repeatedly raised concerns over security, calling on authorities to intensify efforts to prevent further attacks and protect communities from armed groups.

Authorities have yet to issue a detailed update on the investigation into the deadly Palm Sunday attack.
