National News – The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, on Sunday paid tribute to fallen heroes of Nigeria’s Armed Forces as Christians across the country marked the Easter celebration.

In an Easter message shared on the official Defence Headquarters social media platform, the military chief honoured soldiers who died in active service, praised troops currently defending the country, and urged Nigerians to support ongoing security efforts.

Oluyede’s message, released on April 5, 2026, emphasised the spiritual meaning of Easter and its connection to the values guiding military service.

According to him, Easter represents sacrifice, courage, hope, and the triumph of good over evil—principles that reflect the responsibilities and commitment required of members of the Armed Forces.

Explaining the significance of the Christian celebration, the CDS noted that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ symbolise selfless service and unwavering dedication to a greater cause.

He said the message of Easter serves as a reminder that leadership and national service must be built on sacrifice, courage, and loyalty to the nation.

Oluyede also commended officers and soldiers across different military formations and theatres of operation for their dedication to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty.

He said the daily sacrifices made by troops continue to safeguard citizens and preserve national stability despite numerous security challenges facing the country.

The defence chief specifically honoured soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing them as patriots whose bravery and commitment will remain part of Nigeria’s history.

He added that the nation must continue to remember and honour their ultimate sacrifice.

In addition to fallen soldiers, Oluyede acknowledged wounded personnel and troops currently deployed in operations nationwide.

He praised their resilience and dedication, saying their courage continues to inspire Nigerians.

The CDS further urged members of the Armed Forces to remain united, vigilant, and committed to their constitutional duties.

He stressed that collaboration between security agencies, communities, and citizens is essential to addressing terrorism and other security threats confronting the country.

Addressing families of military personnel, particularly those separated from their loved ones during the Easter season due to deployments, Oluyede expressed gratitude for their patience, sacrifice, and continuous support.

He concluded by wishing military personnel, their families, and all Nigerians a peaceful and blessed Easter celebration while reaffirming the Armed Forces’ commitment to protecting the nation.
