National News – The Catholic Bishop of Abeokuta Diocese, Most Revd Peter Odetoyinbo, has urged Nigerians not to lose hope despite worsening economic hardship, insecurity and rising poverty across the country.

In his Easter message released on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the cleric called on citizens to remain steadfast in faith and trust in God as the nation navigates difficult social and economic conditions.

Speaking during the Easter celebration that marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Odetoyinbo said the Christian message of resurrection represents victory over suffering, despair and uncertainty.

According to him, Easter reminds believers that darkness and hardship will not last forever, urging Nigerians to maintain resilience and spiritual strength despite current challenges.

The bishop lamented the worsening cost of living affecting households nationwide, noting that many families are struggling to meet basic needs such as food, education and healthcare.

He also expressed concern over unemployment among young people, adding that many talented youths face uncertain futures despite their hard work and aspirations.

Odetoyinbo further highlighted the growing security concerns across Nigeria, including fear of violence, kidnapping and instability in several regions.

He referenced the lingering impact of recent violence in Jos, Plateau State, praying for healing for victims, comfort for grieving families and eternal rest for those who lost their lives.

Addressing Nigerians directly, the cleric reassured citizens that God remains present even in difficult times.

He emphasised that just as Jesus Christ endured suffering before resurrection, believers should remain hopeful that relief and progress will eventually come.

The bishop also urged political leaders to recognise that authority carries moral and spiritual responsibility.

According to him, public office holders must promote justice, protect human dignity and safeguard fundamental human rights for all citizens.

He encouraged Nigerians to strengthen family prayer, renew their faith and support one another through acts of compassion and moral courage.

Odetoyinbo added that national progress would require not only government policies but also citizens committed to truth, justice and sacrifice.

Concluding his message, the bishop prayed for lasting peace, mercy and protection for Nigeria, asking the faithful to seek divine guidance as the country continues to confront economic and security challenges.
